CEDAR Audio annouces DeClick FOR SADiE

SADiE DeClick

20 November 1998 - Tonmeistertagung, Karlsruhe

CEDAR DeClick was today shown to the European pro-audio industry for the first time since its launch at the San Francisco AES in September 1998, where it was warmly received by US mastering engineers and broadcasters.

DeClick is a plug-in that runs under SADiE 3.70 on both the classic SADiE XS architecture and the latest SADiE 24*96 card. In order to address the widest possible range of scratch, click and thump removal problems, it has been engineered as two radically different de-clickers combined into a single package:

  • Auto DeClick allows the user to process part or all of an entire playlist as an off-line process.
  • Manual DeClick uses SADiE's new region editing feature to highlight individual clicks in the audio waveform, and these can then be accurately processed using DeClick.

As with all CEDAR processes, these algorithms clearly differentiate between the degradation and the genuine signal, allowing transparent restoration of severely damaged material. Undamaged signal passes without any changes: there's no distortion, no loss of transients, and no loss of ambience.

Gordon Reid, Managing Director of CEDAR, said, "We are particularly proud of the product's "manual" declick capabilities. This allows users to remove large thumps and other events that are not detected or fully restored by automated processes. With a completely new algorithm capable of eliminating thumps of up to 2,000 samples in length, DeClick is particularly suitable for restoring optical soundtracks and audio files that have proved impossible to correct using other products and methods. As with all CEDAR processes, DeClick is extremely quick and simple to use. Its SADiE-designed controls are intuitive and clear, and the processes themselves require no time-wasting analysis or pre-processing. We were delighted to work with Studio Audio & Video again, and we are confident that DeClick is going to be invaluable in the film, broadcast and video industries as well as in CD mastering and forensic audio laboratories."
