CEDAR for Windows

The "Console"

8 Board CEDAR Console

The heart of CEDAR for Windows, controlling up to 16 channels of the world's best audio restoration processes

"With this much power available, it really is simpler than ever to get at noise problems with surgical precision and without any perceivable effect on the wanted signal. "

Studio Sound, October 1999.

The Console is the core of CEDAR for Windows. It manages each of the ProDSP boards in the System, allowing any ProDSP board to run any of the CEDAR for Windows Audio Modules. All the Modules run in real-time, so you can pass your audio straight through the System, hearing the results of the processing, and auditioning any adjustments to the process parameters. Therefore, the Console provides bypass and solo facilities, plus a "Master" Pre/Post switch for auditioning the combined result of the all the Modules running at any given time.

The Console permits series processing of a stereo signal using up to eight processes. This means that you can perform a complex audio restoration in a single real-time pass, immediately hearing the final result of all the processing. You can then make adjustments to any given process in the context of its effect on all the others. This is unique to CEDAR, and is a significant factor in producing the best possible restoration for any given audio signal. It also provides huge benefits in terms of efficiency and throughput.

The Console also allows you to configure the System for parallel processing of up to 16 audio channels. Again, this is unique to CEDAR, and allows you to perform real-time restorations on 8-track and 16-track masters. This permits real-time processing for DVD-Audio and other "surround" formats.

Remarkably, the Console allows you to mix and match serial and parallel configurations, using any desired selection of Audio Modules to perform multiple processes on multiple channels. This is invaluable when remastering vintage soundtracks for re-release on video and DVD.
