CEDAR Audio co-presents restoration workshop at Broadcast Asia 2004

On 15th June 2004, CEDAR Audio's Managing Director, Gordon Reid, co-presented a workshop at Broadcast Asia 2004. Sponsored by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, the workshop was enthusiastically received by attendees from Singpore, Indonesia, The Phillippines, Malaysia, Thailand and elsewhere.

The workshop's morning programme focused on the stability and longevity of the common mechanical, magnetic, and optical audiovisual carriers, their proper handling and storage, and issues of optimal signal retrieval. It also dealt with tools and methods for the restoration of deteriorating or obsolete carriers, at which point Mr Reid demonstrated the latest CEDAR Cambridge™ system, with special reference to its application within National Sound Archives and libraries.

The afternoon session concentrated on digitisation as the only means for long-term preservation, discussing which of the present storage media and which of the current formats should be chosen. Finally, audio networks and distribution methods were discussed.
