CEDAR Audio is pleased to announce the winners of The 2002 CEDAR Awards. The Awards recognise outstanding contributions in the field of audio restoration. Nominations were invited in each of the following categories:
This year's winners include studios and engineers working in India, Canada, Germany, Australia, Poland and the UK.
Marketing Manager, Deborah Coral, explains, "This is the fifth year that we have presented The CEDAR Awards, and the quality of the entries never fails to astound us. The judging of the Award submissions is one of our annual highlights, and it is a wonderful opportunity to hear the audio that our customers produce, and to keep up-to-date with them."
Judging was carried out by a panel that listened to 'before' and 'after' samples for each entry, and who were looking for material that had been restored without changing the fundamental nature of the original recording. As in previous years, the quality of the submissions made it a very difficult task to choose just one winner per category. Nonetheless, judging is now complete and we are pleased to announce the winners.
CEDAR also presents a special Award to one of its dealers to recognise exceptional performance over the past 12 months.
"... and the winners are ..."

Debasish Mahapatra at Pancham Studios, India used a 33 1/3 rpm vinyl record as source material to restore the soundtrack of the classic film 'Doctor Zhivago'. Using his CEDAR SERIES 2 DC-1 De-Clicker, CR-1 Decrackler, and DH-2 De-Hisser, Mr Mahapatra successfully removed unwanted clicks, scratches, crackle and surface hiss.
The results were outstanding, and CEDAR is delighted to present this Award to the first winner from India. After the presentation Mr Mahapatra commented, "This wouldn't have been possible without the amazing processing power and the incredible simplicity of the CEDAR SERIES 2. I would like to dedicate this achievement to my inspiration - the greatest and most versatile music composer from India, Rahul Dev Burman."
CD REMASTERING FROM A VINTAGE RECORDING - PRE 1950La Chanson du Bavard (loosely translated The Song of Gossip) was recorded on April 9, 1931 in Montreal by Madame Edouard Bolduc, one of the most influential singers to have emerged from Quebec. Gilles St-Laurent restored this 78rpm disc as part of a Bolduc retrospective that includes her entire recorded output of approximately 160 songs. This comprehensive project required the use of a range of CEDAR for Windows processes including WIN1: Declick, WIN2: Decrackle, WIN4: NR3 Noise Reduction, and WIN5: Phase Correction.

Eberhard Koehler had to remove clicks, crackle, hiss and a variety of other problems before the French version of 12 O' Clock High could be released on DVD. CEDAR Series X units - the DCX declicker, CRX decrackler, and DHX dehisser were used alongside the DNS1000 Dynamic Noise Suppressor. Eberhard Koehler remarked, "The majority of the job required the DNS1000, and without that wonderful box the quality achieved would not have been possible."

Ted Kendall is already well-known for his CEDAR restorations of 'The Goon Show' and 'Hancock's Half Hour', and has now won his fourth CEDAR Award. He did so for restoring the first series of 'Round the Horne - The Collectors Edition', which was recently released for the first time as a CD box set.
Mr Kendall faced quite a challenge as previous re-issues of the programmes had been cut from 30 minutes to 27 minutes. He had to source off-air recordings from the 1960s, and repair cuts so that each show ran for the original length. Kendall used a combination of CEDAR SERIES 2 DC-1 De-Clicker, CR-1 De-Crackler, and AZ-1 Azimuth Corrector, plus NR3 Noise Reduction on CEDAR for Windows. In addition, a DNS1000 Dynamic Noise Suppressor proved invaluable for one show originally recorded onto a domestic reel-to-reel machine of the period.

Graeme Kinraid uses a range of CEDAR equipment to reduce noise and increase the intelligibility of covert surveillance and other forensic audio recordings.
Due to the confidential nature of Mr Kinraid's work, we cannot give details of the recordings.
